Animoca Brands is bringing chess-inspired game Anichess to the blockchain

Blockchain and GameFi company Animoca Brands and their sporting NFT subsidiary Lympo have teamed up with global chess leader Play Magnus Group (PMG) to announce Anichess – a chess-inspired blockchain game with a play-and-earn ecosystem.

The game will combine the two worlds of GameFi and chess and will “amplify the traditional chess experience with a new phenomenal strategic layer that will produce situations never seen before,” as stated by Tadas Maurukas, CEO and co-founder of Lympo.

The partnership with PMG will allow for their pool of over 30 chess grandmasters to advise on the project in hopes of better gameplay for casual and experienced players, and overall development of chess engines within the game.

Anichess will be developed on Polygon and utilize Lympo’s $SPORT token as its main cryptocurrency for utility which will act as a pathway to Lympo’s greater ecosystem.

Yat Siu, co-founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands said:

“Chess has emerged as one of the fastest-growing esports. By partnering with Play Magnus Group to create Anichess we will create unparalleled experiences for chess players, casual gamers, and fans.”

With development underway, Anichess is set to launch in 2023.
