Sky Mavis – the creator of popular P2E game Axie Infinity – has signed a multi-year partnership with Google Cloud as a validator for its Ronin Network – an Ethereum-based side chain designed primarily for Web3 gaming.
The company made the announcement at Axiecon – an annual gaming conference organized by Sky Mavis for the development of Axie ecosystem. The event was scheduled from Sept 7-10 for 2022 in Barcelona.
Google Cloud, chosen for its advanced caching features and load balancing, will help bolster security and further decentralize the network.
“Validators have the important duty of ensuring that transactions on Ronin are processed correctly. They also serve as crucial ecosystem partners and supervisors,” said Aleksander Larsen, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, Sky Mavis.
Axie Infinity had roped in Google Cloud as a strategic cloud provider in 2020. With this new partnership, Google Cloud becomes Ronin’s 18th validator.
“Sky Mavis is a strong example of how the cloud can enable blockchain technologies to yield innovation and value creation for individuals,” said Ruma Balasubramanian, Managing Director, Southeast Asia, Google Cloud. “Alongside Searce as our implementation partner, we look forward to working with Sky Mavis to accelerate its product roadmap and grow the Ronin network with secure infrastructure as its core.
In March, Ronin Network was hacked, and approx $600 million worth of cryptocurrency was stolen. Back then, the network had 9 validators, of which 5 were compromised.
Today, Sky Mavis has doubled the number of validators and intends to reach an initial goal of 21 independent validators to secure the network.
